Although not noticeable at first glance, many of today’s office buildings, especially those with open floor plans, have been built with raised floors, also referred to as access floor systems. For example, The New York Times Building, the Bank of America Tower and the San Francisco Federal Building are all equipped with these systems, which are made up of durable panels that are elevated above a solid substrate, often a concrete slab. Underneath the panels, unsightly cables, wiring and network hookups can be housed to provide a clean and organized appearance above.
